7 TIPS TO PLAN FOR THE UNPLANNED PREGNANCY.

by Yohana Alsagoff.

Congratulations, it is a blessing that you are expecting a new baby BUT you are financially on the rock. Fret not, here is a guide for the new and seasoned parents to prepare before the baby’s arrival.

#1. Review your current expenses

List down your expenses and cut down unwanted spending like high mobile phone / internet packages, gym membership, fancy coffee or eating out, duplicate or high Takaful policies. It is time to go for basic needs first!

#2.  Delivery hospital, prenatal check-ups & vaccinations.

Do you know our Government Hospital provides the best medical subsidy to all Malaysians? From as low as RM10 to RM1,200, why wait any further? Start identifying the nearest Government Hospital to where you live. Basic vaccinations are provided for free. However, do save up some cash for other important vaccinations you can get from private clinics like Rota-virus, Chicken Pox etc. which are not provided by Ministry of Health (MOH).

#3. Stick to basic baby items.

Be open to ASK from your family members, close friends or purchase through a reliable online platform for pre-loved baby clothes and baby gear. Practise minimalism and buy only when it is necessary. Love does not equal to over-pampering and bursting your purse strings.

#4. Confinement Care

The first six weeks rest after delivery can have lasting effects on your well-being. Create a chore timetable and meal preparation, and identify those who can help you out and Mr. Hubby is not exempted from this. Stock up suitable supplements that can boost your energy and recovery.

#5. Medical card for baby

Government hospital it is. However, if extra comfort is what you seek, buy an online standalone medical card which starts from RM50 onwards per month, after 14 to 30 days of your baby’s birth. For more options, speak to a Certified Financial Planner.

#6. Increase your income

Turn your passion into business. With various avenues from Socmed platform, check out affordable or free online classes based on your interest. Time to monetize those talents while you work from home.

#7. Relax, you got this!
